Supporting the Preservation of Indonesian Literature, Astragraphia Document Solution Took Part in the Printing Process of the “Frasa Vol. 2” Zine by Sastra Lintas Rupa Community
Jakarta, 10 September 2018 – Astragraphia and Sastra Lintas Rupa published their second book entitled "Frasa Vol. 2". The initial purpose of publishing this "Phrase" book was due to a sense of concern from the Sastra Lintas Rupa community towards Indonesian literature which was currently beginning to be forgotten and less conserved, especially by the millennials. Only a few of them still want to preserve and appreciate the Indonesian literature that can be a historical reference to the nation.
Garyanes Yulius, the founder of the Sastra Lintas Rupa community, was one of the people behind the publishing of Frasa Vol.2. Gary was concerned about the H.B Jassin Center of Literature Documentation (PDS H.B Jassin) that was built on 28 June 1986 which had begun to be less noticed. The lack of visitors is also a factor. Students and millennials prefer spending times at shopping centers rather than learning about the history of Indonesian literature. Actually, their collections are quite complete, such as the one from the Dutch colonial era, the work of Chairil Anwar, and several Indonesian literature masterpieces.
Gary wants to cherish the literary archives in this literary documentation center makes him think of a creative design that unites a design and a literature. Frasa Vol.2 book was finally realized in the form of an expressive masterpiece with attractive design book which can be accepted by youngsters, the anti-mainstream millennials.
Frasa Vol.2 book is a literary experiment that follows the times so that people's perspective towards literature is no longer just an ancient writing that is meaningless and monotonous or out of date. As conveyed by Garyanes Yulius, "The phrase is a literary experiment that raises popular themes that are inspired by foods. But the difference is now that we depart from the object, from the character. A famous literary figure, Sapardi Djoko Damono. Where we do research and interviews, what foods affect his life so that he can become a person like that ".
Get acquainted with characters in the Frasa Vol.2 book, Prof. Dr. Sapardi Djoko Damono was born in Surakarta, March 20, 1940. Until now he is still working and it can be said that he is the only Indonesian writer to date. The Frasa Vol.2 book creation process takes 3 months until it is ready to be distributed to the public. "The process is calculated from the start of our work from June 2018, then in June, we conduct an interview with Mr. Sapardi, doing research and so on. Then in the last June, we opened submissions on social media so that the sixteen participants in this experiment were gathered", said Garyanes.
After going through the interview process, these designers started thinking about the framework and the silver linings that they wanted to pour. After the design is complete, then it is time to enter the printing process. Here Astragraphia comes with a new machine that, Iridesse Production Press, as a creative printing solution in the printing process of the Frasa Vol.2 books. According to Gary's statement, "To print Frasa Vol.2 books, we use Fuji Xerox machine called Iridesse Production Press. For this project we begin from Sapardi Djoko Damono's work, which is rather simple, we use the white ink finish. Actually, I did not think it would work at first, Iridesse could apply on paper that had been coated with laminating because on the cover itself it could be seen that I pulled the design with metallic paper, but it could catch up with the results that I thought were very good on the cover. For finishing on uncoated paper, there is no doubt because, in my opinion, Iridesse machine specialization is on paper like that. "
Iridesse ™ Production Press is a high-end printer for professionals. This Iridesse ™ production machine is claimed to be very suitable for creative business people because it is the only printer machine that has the ability to print six colors, including special colors such as metallic with a single pass method, using additional up to two dry ink specials in Gold, Silver, Clear, and White with captivating print quality. With the addition of special color, designers can express their artwork to be more creative and not only play on standard colors (CMYK).
The sales results of Frasa Vol.2 books will be donated to support the activity that could gain the interest of Indonesian literary culture among millennials and further enriching creative works for the development of design and literature in Indonesia. Love your country by loving Indonesian literature and its artwork.
